VACCINES FOR TRAVEL

What is the difference between routine, required, and recommended vaccines?

Required vaccines are those that travellers must have to enter a country, based on that country’s government regulations2.

Recommended vaccines are those that travellers take to protect their health, even though they are not required for entry by the government of the country you are visiting. They protect travellers from illnesses that are usually travel-related2.

Routine vaccines are those that are recommended based on their age, health condition, or other risk factors2. Travellers are advised to seek medical consultation to learn about the risk of disease in the country or countries they plan to visit and the steps to be taken to prevent illness3.
